Jaggery sugar – Plant based Natural Sweetener
Say no to processed white sugar
Description:
Jaggery is an unrefined natural sweetener. Some people consider it a superfood because it has more natural vitamins and minerals and a lower sucrose content than white sugar. Sugar was first produced from sugarcane plants in India sometime after the first century AD.
The derivation of the word “sugar” is thought to be from Sanskrit शर्करा (śarkarā), meaning “ground or candied sugar,”. Chinese term Sha-Che, literally “Sand-Sugar plant,” signifying a sand-like product from the sugar plant, which is sugar. There are also evidence of sugarcane remnants in South East Asia which dates back to 8000 BC.
The white sugar we consumer daily are artificially refined or processed leaving out vitamins and minerals and can contribute to health problems like obesity, diabetes and tooth decay. Jaggery is a natural sweetener made from the extract of sugarcane juice or palm sap, which is boiled and then solidified into blocks or cones.
Jaggery is often considered a healthier alternative to refined sugar because It contains iron, calcium, potassium, and antioxidants that are not present in refined sugar. Jaggery is also known to be a good source of energy due to its high sugar content.
However, it is still a type of sugar, and consuming too much of it is not advised.
